What is Traditional Upholstery?

All of these can either be used again or biodegrade naturally in the environment. For example, the coconut coir can be washed, carded and reused, making traditional upholstery a fairly environmentally friendly trade. These materials have been used for hundreds of years and are very well suited to reupholster antique furniture.
The process of traditional upholstery begins with the removal of the existing fabric and examining the structural integrity of the furniture. Skilled upholsterers assess the condition of the frame, springs, and padding, making any necessary repairs or replacements to ensure optimum stability and support.\
Next, layer by layer, the upholstery process advances. The foundation is typically reinforced with a webbing or spring system, which allows for resilience and proper weight distribution. Layers of padding, such as horsehair and coconut coir, are hand stuffed and stitched into place to provide cushioning and shape to the furniture.
